This 5 day camp will explore hand building techniques and decorative methods to create a variety of pieces incorporating a “Slugs & Bugs” theme.
Introduce Clay vocabulary & ceramic processes and tools. Tour studio.
Demonstrate pinch & coil building methods
Project: use pinch pot method to create hollow slugs & bugs
Project: construct coil pot
Demonstrate slab method & using the slab roller safely
Project: use plaster slump mold to make large dish
Project: use slab technique to make butterfly/dragonfly tiles
Discuss Texture and Demonstrate how to attach slabs with scoring technique.
Project: use slab construction to construct tall vase with negative space near rim
Project: draw & plan design for dish project
Demonstrate Sgraffito technique.
Discuss color theory & underglaze application
Project: use large dish from day 2 for Sgraffito technique
Project: begin painting projects with underglaze
Review clay vocabulary, clay tools, & the ceramic process
Project: use underglaze to finish painting projects
Project: Finish all pieces / record glaze choices / add initials to projects
*Work will be fired and final glazing done the week after the camp. Participants will be notified when all pieces are complete and ready for pickup.
