Exploring Surface Design with Julie Johnson


In this 4 week course, participants will create one handbuilt piece - a wall hanging decorative platter. We will learn techniques such as sgraffito, mishima, mono-printing, screen printing, and resist work to design and decorate the piece. We will also learn to make our own bisque stamps and use them on the piece. Students will leave the class with a basic knowledge of these surface design techniques, as well as resources to take them farther.

1 Free Bag of clay ($30 value)
4 Free open studio sessions to practice your course learning ($60 Dollar value) *sessions expire 2 weeks following last class.
Pre-made slip for decorating
All necessary supplies and tools will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring any carving tools, stamps or brushes you may already own.

Cost of class: $225 ($180 for members)

Class minimum: 3 students; maximum: 8 students.
SCCA must have at least 3 students to have a class. If 3 students aren’t enrolled in time for the class to start, we will inform and refund you.

If you have to miss a class, we will give you an additional free open studio session so you can practice and make up for it!
